Campus speech suppression is among America's greatest ironies. Faculty members lead this despicable parade. Their intolerance is less surprising than that their blatant intellectual dishonesty is permitted to remain in the classroom.
Former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) was invited to the Chapel Hill campus of the University of North Carolina to speak about U.S. immigration law and policy. As happens with alarming regularity on American college and university campuses, Tancredo was denied the right to speak and those who invited him were denied the right to hear what he would say.
Could it be that the UNC's self-appointed speech police expected Tancredo to advocate violent overthrow of the government? That those silencing him are patriots who know the limits of free speech and acted to prevent a dangerous violation of law?
The questions pretty well answer themselves. No and no. Those silencing Tancredo are simply hoodlums, the despicable breed of leftist activists found for decades now on college and university campuses all across the fruited plain. Many are students, but they are led by now-tenured, intellectually-dishonest men and women who were campus radicals in the 60s and didn't bother to grow up while they were growing long of tooth.
